The visit of the United States' Great White Fleet to Australia in 1908
The views in this section are from a series produced in 1908 by George Rose to record the visit of the US Great White Fleet to Australia between 20th August and 18th September 1908, while on a world goodwill tour. Waldsmith states of the photographer:
'Collectors should look for the fine series by George Rose of Windsor, Victoria, Australia. Rose Stereograph Company was formed in 1880 and may still be in business (Rose Company was still making postcards in 1978). Rose made an outstanding series of the visit of the Great White Fleet to Australia in 1908'.
More recently, a critique of the work of George Rose was published in volume 28 of Stereo World, the journal of the National Stereoscopic Association.

They are extremely sharp with excellent contrast and resemble the work of H.C. White. The scanner has struggled to reproduce them accurately and, in general, they are much better than scans.
