Gloucester Illustrated

Treadwell lists only two Gloucester (city) and four Gloucestershire views. He then lists nine views of Gloucestershire, including the two Tewksbury ones illustrated here under 'Cheltenham' and a further two views of Cheltenham under 'Bedfordshire'.  As far as I am aware there were never any Francis Bedford views of Bedfordshire.

Monmouthshire Illustrated
 

Bedford seems to have listed his Monmouthshire views with low numbers and later used much higher numbering for identical or very similar views. Monmouthshire seems to consist of Tintern Abbey and little else. Tintern however, although one of the most photographed ruins, has a magic all of its own. Only Bedford and, perhaps, Sedgfield captured perfectly the essence of this superb structure. Pay a visit one day - you will be entranced as these early photographers obviously were.
