The last section on this page comprise what are undoubtedly the finest nineteenth century interior views of Westminster Abbey. By Victor A. Prout, artist, book illustrator and photographer, and published by J. Elliott. Prout was working in 1860 and spent many years as a photographer in Australia.
Some of these views were exhibited in the London Photographic Society Exhibition of 1860.

Darrah states: 'J. Elliott published a most beautiful series of twelve interior views of Westminster Abbey by Victor A. Prout'.

It has generally been believed that this is a set of 12. We are aware of at least 18 different views of which we are offering 13 here.
Taken with exceptionally long (and sometimes interrupted) exposures, these views are so fine that the shafts of sunlight expose the dust hanging in the air. The stable surface of the stone floor enabled exposures impossible elsewhere.
