Handwritten 'Sweethearts Abbey, Dumfries No 5'. Many thanks to Tom who provides the following: Sweetheart Abbey in the town of New Abbey in the Scottish Borders. The Abbey is given the name Sweetheart Abbey because it was built in the 12th century as a memorial to the husband of Lady Devorgilla of Dumfries after the death of her husband John Balliol (in whose honour she founded Balliol College in Oxford). Lady Devorgilla is reputed to have carried her deceased husband's heart everywhere with her in a silver casket and on her death she was, and presumably still is, buried in the Abbey with her husband's heart.
