Gems of Statuary by William England - superb quality

William England was the London Stereoscopic Company's official photographer for the 1862 Exhibition. He continued to work with the company, photographing at exhibitions well into the 1870s. During that time he naturally photographed many items of statuary and LSE issued these as a series without reference to any exhibition. The following are from that series. Many views from the same negs were also produced with attribution to the exhibition where they were displayed - so there is some duplication in subjects on our site. For the exhibition views, please click  HERE.

This last group are a bit odd. They are obviously cabinet cards cut down. They are very neatly done with a guillotine and are all exactly the same size (quarter inch higher than a normal view). Tiltles handwritten in Victorian hand on the back are in the center of the card as it is now - so this was obviously done in the 19th century. Why? Who knows!
