Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905

I can't do better for the history of this conflict than point you in the direction of this excellent  website.  All views are by  Underwood unless otherwise mentioned. The sure hand of  James Ricalton was Underwood's guarantee of a fine set of views. Ricalton certainly seems to have preferred the company of the Japanese Forces to that of the Russian. A view exists of him in the company of Japanese officers, one of whom has his arm linked in Ricalton's. The blurb on the back states that the Japanese gave Ricalton carte blanche to photograph what and where he liked. The vast majority of Ricalton's views were taken in the Japanese lines - either through choice or necessity.
To quote Darrah: 'The stereographic record of the Russo-Japanese War portrays battle action, materiel, and strategy more strikingly than any other war stereos - including World War I. The most notable views are by Underwood and H.C. White'.
This page was updated on 4 September 2005 with the addition of 96 fresh views. We have also taken the opportunity of upgrading several existing views to better versions.
